Olivier Rousteing, seems to have the same affinity for the moto meets tailoring appeal. Denim remains a prominent part of the collection for the spring 2012 season including the iconic Balmain paneled biker jean this time in a slightly looser fit and in new washes like killerwashed out pastel hues—totally on trend for spring. Washed out denim jackets, vests, and workshirts are also thrown into mix definitely keeping the casual-cool guy look alive. This is def a fly collection!
Keeping with the thoughts of using music as the inspiration, Olivier Rousteing chose Elvis in Vegas for the Balmain Resort collection. He chose Kasia Stuss to be the model for his first jab at womenswear since gaining the title of Creative Director.
The collection had a huge amount of detail put into it. Looking at the dresses it is just impeccable how much is in it. For example, the mini dress with the tribal print. That whole print has been embroidered on the dress itself. Amazing!
One thing that I do have to say is that, I get McQueen a lot looking through the collection. With all the gold combined with the prints and white…it is just reminiscent of the fashion house. Though with that aside, the collection is still great. I love that they did trouser cuts this season. Those would have to be my favorite. They feature ankle zips and hidden pocket zippers at the hip. Olivier also brought back the leather hot pants with the multiple hip zippers, but cleaned them up for this collection. A new feature this season is also in the motorcycle jeans. The pleating on those are cut different and placed different than what is usual for Balmain. The line also features a pink pair and an amazing shirt with suede panels.
This Raccoon Fur Leather Sleeve Jacket is one of the most memorable pieces from Balmain’s Fall/Winter 2011 Menswear Collection. It has a thick raccoon fur body and 100% black leather sleeves with zip detail.

New images from Balmain Homme’s Fall 2011 campaign have recently been released. Although Christophe Decarnin is no longer affiliated with the revamped French fashion house, his decadent rock’n'roll aesthetic is very much alive in the garments on display here. Not surprisingly, Balmain continues to deliver impeccably cut and glamorous clothes in their military-inflected Fall 2011 collection. Notable are the coats emblazoned with decorative stripes and gold buttons, chunky scarves, a fur vest and the ever-present combination of leather jackets and skinny jeans. Although this season’s offering is sure to be a hit, it will be interesting to see how much new designer Olivier Rousteing shifts the brand’s winning formula for churning out luxury men’s fashion in the future.
