Their Stories:
"My acting career had pretty much fallen apart and I resolved to write every day. I took a cheap apartment over an abandoned delicatessen on 56th and Lexington and painted the windows black, because I didn't want to know if it was night or day. I cut off the telephone, cut off the electricity, and I wrote by candlelight. Except for a crate that served as my desk, I had absolutely no furniture. I didn't even have a bed; I slept on top of an old coat. It was the most pathetic, threadbare joint you could hope to see. The rent was $71.84 a month and I spent most of that year -- 1972 -- getting by on $30 a week unemployment."~Sylvester Stallone
"I had no intention, no desire, to remain on benefits. It's the most soul-destroying thing. I don't want to dramatise, but there were nights when, though Jessica ate, I didn't. The suggestion that you would deliberately make yourself entitled . . . you'd have to be a complete idiot."~J. K. Rowling
"I was watching "The Oprah Show" and she said it was cathartic to write things down. So I started writing my first play in 1992. Performed that show from '92 to 1998 and had the rent payment, car payment and everything tied up into it and rolled the dice one too many times and ended, you know, out on the streets and sleeping in my car back in about '96, '97."~Tyler Perry
Here are a couple inspirational stories of some of the best to do it, explaining how tough it was in the beginning of their careers to get to where they are now. The key to all their stories is that even though things got tough they never stopped believing in themselves and kept going until they made it.
